Locking a site

Lock a site so collaborators can’t change exclusions, TV channels, or frequencies while you’re mid-calculation — and take the lock over politely when you need it.

Why lock?

Frequency calculations depend on the site’s current state — active TV channels, exclusions, scan data, existing frequencies. If a collaborator changes any of that between your calculation and adding the results, the results may already be invalid. Holding the lock guarantees the site stays still while you work.

The lock button sits at the right end of the Site bar in SoundBase Desktop. It only appears when the project has collaborators and you have edit permission.

Lock and unlock

Click the lock icon to take the lock. Collaborators can still look around, but edits are blocked with messages like Site is locked for editing.
Click again to release it. Switching to another site, duplicating the site, or importing a site also releases your lock automatically, and the Tour Planner takes and releases it for you while it’s open.

Requesting the lock from someone else

If a collaborator holds the lock and you click it, an unlock request is sent and the Request Site Unlock dialog opens on your side with a countdown:

The holder sees Site Unlock Requested and can choose Release Lock or Keep Lock.
If they don’t respond before the countdown ends (they may have walked away), the Unlock Site button becomes available to you and you can take the lock.
If they decline, you’ll see that they declined to release it.
Project owners and admins additionally get Force Unlock to take the lock immediately, without waiting.

The offline lock (SoundBase Desktop)

On a shared cloud project, if SoundBase Desktop loses its connection, the site locks itself until the connection returns. This prevents your offline edits and a collaborator’s online edits from silently diverging. While offline-locked, the lock button is disabled and the Real-time Site Report can’t be reconfigured.
