Remote View

Share live wireless monitoring with anyone on your show network — crew open a link in a browser and watch your rig in real time, no install required.

Remote View is a web server built directly into SoundBase Desktop. When you start it, your computer hosts live, browser-based monitoring views that anyone on the same local network can open — a monitor engineer on a tablet side-stage, an A2 on a phone backstage, or a wall display at FOH.

Viewers need nothing but a modern web browser. No app to install, no SoundBase account, no sign-in. You send them a link, they open it, and they see live meters and device status streaming from your machine.

How it works: your SoundBase Desktop machine is the host. One server runs inside the app and broadcasts the same live data to every connected browser at once. You decide what each link shows by creating views — curated sets of channels with a layout you choose. Each view gets its own URL.

  1. Open your project and go to the Monitoring page.
  2. In the toolbar, click Remote View. A settings window opens, scoped to the current zone (titled Remote View for your zone’s name).

Remote View has its own dedicated settings window — the separate Integrations button covers REAPER and Companion only and does not include Remote View.

The Host dropdown controls which network connection the server listens on:

  • All interfaces (0.0.0.0) — the default. The server is reachable on every network your computer is connected to.
  • A specific interface — pick one of your machine’s network adapters (each is listed with its name and IP address).

Pinning the server to a specific interface is useful when your computer sits on more than one network. For example, if your machine is connected to both a console/control network and a separate production or crew Wi‑Fi, you can bind Remote View to the crew network only — viewers get their links, and no Remote View traffic ever appears on the control network.

The interface list refreshes automatically. SoundBase re-checks your network adapters every few seconds, so a newly plugged-in USB Ethernet adapter shows up in the dropdown within moments.

The Port field defaults to 9999 and accepts any value from 1 to 65535. You only need to change it if another application on your machine already uses port 9999.

  1. Click Start. The button changes to Stop, and a green dot appears with a live status line reading Running — 0 client(s).
  2. The client count updates in real time as browsers connect and disconnect, so you always know how many people are watching.
  3. A clickable link to the server’s root page appears next to the status — open it to verify the server is up.
  4. Click Stop to shut the server down. All connected viewers lose their feed immediately.

The Auto-start server when opening project checkbox is on by default. With it enabled, the server comes up automatically whenever you open the project — so shared links keep working after an app restart without anyone touching the settings. Untick it if you prefer to start the server manually each time.

A view is a named, shareable page: a set of channels, a layout, and a few options. The Views list in Remote View settings shows every view with its type, channel count, live URL (while the server is running), and Copy URL, Edit, and Delete buttons.

There is no limit on how many views you can create. A typical setup might be one view per department: “Monitors”, “Backstage”, “RF World”, “Stage Left Rack”.

  1. In Remote View settings, click the + button next to Views.
  2. Enter a View name. Names must be unique within the project — if you reuse one, you’ll see the error A view named “…” already exists. The name also becomes part of the view’s URL, so keep it short and recognizable.
  3. Choose a View type:
    • Grid — a wall of channel cards with full meters, ideal for wall displays and tablets. Grid is the only layout that can show channel card images (photos).
    • List — a compact, row-per-channel layout that fits the most channels on a small screen.
    • Cards — larger cards focused on audio, where viewers can switch each card between live meters and a scrolling timeline.
  4. Pick channels (see below), set any options, and click Save.

The channel picker lists every monitorable channel as a clickable chip, grouped by device, with a selected/total badge on each device.

  • Chips show the live channel names coming from your hardware (falling back to Ch plus the channel number when a device hasn’t reported a name).
  • Click a chip to toggle that channel. Click a device’s header row to toggle every channel on that device at once.
  • Select All and Unselect All act on the whole list.
  • Channels you’ve just added appear orange until you save, so staged changes are easy to spot; already-saved channels are blue.
  • A running counter above the picker shows Channels (selected/total).

For Sennheiser Spectera systems, the picker shows real transmitter rows by name — separate (Mic) and (IEM) entries per bodypack, plus connected antenna ports. The base station must be connected for these to appear.

If you’ve already organized channels into monitoring tabs, click Copy from Tab and pick a tab from the menu (each entry shows its channel count, and the Default tab is included). The tab’s exact channel set is copied into the view in one click. This is a one-time copy — the view won’t follow later changes to the tab. If you want it to stay in sync, use a tab-linked view instead (next section).

If your monitoring setup has markdown note cards, they appear in the picker under a Notes group. Add them individually, or click the Notes header to toggle all of them.

Ticking Allow editing note cards lets remote viewers edit those notes from their browser. Edits sync back into your project and out to every other viewer instantly. Leave it unticked to keep notes read-only for viewers.

  • Show card images on grid cards (Grid views only) — includes each channel’s card image (for example, performer photos) on the remote cards.
  • Hide “Views” back link for this page — removes the navigation link back to the view directory, for locked-down kiosk or wall displays.

Type a password into the Password field (placeholder: Password (optional)) to lock a view. Viewers opening the link see an unlock screen and must enter the password before anything loads. Click Clear to remove protection.

Each viewer only has to enter the password once per browser session. If you stop and restart the server, viewers may be prompted again.

Use the Edit and Delete buttons next to each view in the Views list. Edits sync to connected browsers live — viewers see channel and layout changes without refreshing. Deleting a view immediately kills its link.

If you want a shared view that always mirrors one of your monitoring tabs, create it from the tab itself:

  1. On the Monitoring page, open a tab’s context menu.
  2. Choose Create Remote View from tab.

The new view is permanently linked to that tab. Its name, channel list, channel order, and note cards always follow the tab — rename the tab, add or remove channels, or drag cards into a new order, and the remote link updates by itself.

In the view editor, linked views show a Linked badge with the message Name and channels follow the “…” tab. Edit on the tab to change. The name and channel fields are locked; everything else (layout type, password, display options) is still editable per view.

If you later delete the tab, the view stops updating and the editor shows The linked tab no longer exists. Delete this view or relink. — delete the orphaned view or recreate it from another tab.

Viewers of a linked view can still zoom, but the show/hide-channels control is disabled with the tooltip This view is controlled directly from a SoundBase tab.

Every view’s URL has the form:

http://<host>:<port>/view/<view name>

For example: http://192.168.1.20:9999/view/Monitors. Names with spaces or special characters are automatically URL-encoded.

  1. Make sure the server is running (links only appear and work while it is).
  2. In the Views list, click Copy URL next to a view.
  3. Send the link to your crew however you like — text, AirDrop, a QR code on the production office door.

The server’s root URL (http://<host>:<port>/) is also shareable: it’s a directory page listing every view, so one link can cover the whole crew and each person picks their page.

This section is written for the person opening the link.

Opening the root URL shows a SoundBase-branded directory of all published views, with a live connection badge (Connected, Connecting…, or Disconnected), total device and channel counts, and each view’s layout type and channel count. Tap a view to open it. Inside a view, a Views link in the header takes you back (unless the engineer hid it for that page).

A colored status dot in the view header shows your connection: green when live, orange while connecting, red when disconnected. If the connection drops — Wi‑Fi blip, laptop lid closed — the page reconnects automatically, retrying with increasing intervals until it’s back. While SoundBase Desktop itself is unreachable, you’ll see the full-page message This view is not available. SoundBase Desktop is disconnected.

The toolbar gives you controls to tailor how the view displays. These controls never change the engineer’s screen. Zoom, hidden channels, channel order, and display toggles are saved automatically on the host machine per view — so everyone who opens that view shares the same saved setup, and the most recent change wins. If two audiences need different setups, ask the engineer to create a separate view for each. (Theme and chat name are stored per device.)

  • Zoom — step between 50% and 200% to fit more channels on screen or make a wall display readable from a distance.
  • Channels — opens the Show / hide channels dialog: filter channels by name with the Filter… box, tick or untick individual channels, use Show all / Hide all, and drag the handles to reorder channels. A counter shows how many are visible.
  • Images (when the engineer enabled card images) — toggle channel photos on or off.
  • On Cards views: an Audio display selector switches every card between Meters (live level bars) and Timeline (a scrolling level history), and the Overlay checkbox tints cards with their RF group color.
  • Reset — returns zoom and hidden channels to defaults. It intentionally keeps the channel order and Images setting.

A sun/moon toggle in the header switches between light and dark mode; your choice is remembered on your device. It defaults to your device’s system preference. For kiosk or wall screens, force a theme in the URL itself by appending ?theme=light or ?theme=dark to any view link.

Each view has its own built-in chat connecting viewers with the SoundBase operator:

  1. Click the chat icon in the view header.
  2. Enter a display name in the Your name field and click Join chat. Your name is remembered on your device; use Edit name to change it later.
  3. Type and press Enter to send.

You’ll see who sent each message and when, with remote viewers and the desktop operator clearly distinguished. When the panel is closed, the chat icon pulses if there are unread messages. Drag the panel’s edge to resize it — the width is remembered. Recent chat history is kept per view on the hosting machine and survives app restarts.

On the desktop side, the engineer sees your messages in the Remote View Chat drawer, opened from the Chat button in the Monitoring toolbar, which shows its own unread indicator.

If the view includes note cards, they render as full markdown (headings, lists, tables, links). When the engineer has enabled editing for that view, double-click a note (or use its pencil icon) to open a markdown editor with a formatting toolbar. Saving pushes your edit live to the desktop and all other viewers. If editing isn’t enabled, notes are read-only.

If a view is locked, you’ll see This view is password protected. with an Enter password field. Type the password and click Unlock. You won’t be asked again for the rest of your browser session on that device.

Remote View streams the same telemetry the engineer sees on the Monitoring page:

  • Live meters, updating about 10 times per second by default: RF levels with peaks and diversity indication (including multi-path RF), and audio levels with peaks — including stereo IEM left/right.
  • Device state, pushed the instant it changes: frequency, channel name, link quality, battery percentage and estimated runtime remaining, mute state, transmitter power and type, encryption status, and interference warnings.
  • Offline states — when a device disconnects, its cards show as offline; brief network flickers are smoothed over rather than flashing offline.
  • Charger status for supported charging stations, including per-bay battery state.

Channel cards render natively for each supported manufacturer: Shure (Axient Digital including frequency-diversity pairs, ULX‑D, UHF‑R, PSM/P10T IEM), Sennheiser (Spectera bodypacks and antennas, EW‑DX, plus CHG70N and L6000 chargers), Lectrosonics (DSQD), Wisycom (MTK receivers and MAT244 antenna matrix), and Sound Devices (ARX). Channel card colors follow your frequency group colors, so remote views match the desktop color-coding.

  • Local network only. Remote View does not work over the internet. There is no cloud relay, tunnel, or remote-access mode — viewers must be on the same network as your SoundBase Desktop machine (or on a network your machine is bridged to). If someone off-site needs to watch, you would need your own network-level solution such as a VPN into the show network.
  • Read-only by design. Viewers cannot change anything on your rig — no gain, mute, frequency, or device settings can be touched from a browser. The only ways a viewer can write anything are the two you explicitly opt into: note-card editing (per view) and chat.
  • Per-view passwords control who can open a view. Password checks issue a temporary session credential; passwords themselves are never sent to viewers’ browsers.
  • View management is protected. Creating, editing, or deleting views requires a signed-in SoundBase account with Pro and access to your project — a viewer with a link can’t reconfigure anything.
  • Traffic is unencrypted on your LAN. Links are plain http:// on your local network. Treat your show network accordingly: use a network you control, and use passwords for sensitive views.
  • Live data stays local. Meters, device state, chat, and viewer preferences are served directly from your machine to viewers’ browsers and never pass through SoundBase servers. View settings (names, channel lists, passwords) are part of your project, so they sync with your project like any other project setting.
  • Views clean themselves up. If you delete a monitored device from the project, its channels are automatically removed from every view — links keep working with the remaining channels instead of breaking.
  • Duplicating a site copies its views. When you duplicate a site, all of its Remote Views come along, with device and tab references remapped to the copies and names automatically made unique (for example, “FOH (2)”).

A viewer can’t load the URL at all Work through these in order: (1) Is the server running? Check for the green Running indicator in Remote View settings. (2) Is the viewer’s device on the same network as your machine — not on carrier data or a different venue Wi‑Fi? (3) Is the URL exact, including the port (default 9999)? (4) If Host is set to a specific interface, the viewer must be on that network — try All interfaces (0.0.0.0) to rule out a binding mismatch. (5) Check your computer’s firewall: it must allow incoming connections for SoundBase Desktop on the chosen port.

Viewers see “This view is not available. SoundBase Desktop is disconnected” The browser reached the page but has lost its live feed — SoundBase Desktop was closed, the server was stopped, or the host machine dropped off the network. Reopen the project (with Auto-start server when opening project enabled, the server returns automatically) or click Start. The viewer’s page reconnects on its own.

The selected network interface is no longer available If the adapter you bound the server to disappears (for example, a USB Ethernet dongle is unplugged), SoundBase notices within a few seconds and the adapter drops out of the Host list — viewers on that network lose their feed. Plug the adapter back in, or stop the server, pick a different Host, and start again.

“A view named “…” already exists.“ View names must be unique within the project because the name is part of the URL. Pick a different name, or edit the existing view instead.

Host and Port fields are greyed out They’re locked while the server is running. Click Stop, make your changes, then Start.

Copy URL is greyed out Links are only available while the server is running. Start the server first.

A viewer keeps getting the password prompt The unlock lasts for one browser session per device. Closing the browser (or the server being restarted) ends the session — the viewer just enters the password again.

I don’t see the Remote View button at all Remote View requires SoundBase Pro; without it the button shows a Pro badge and the controls are disabled. If you have Pro and still don’t see the option, make sure you’re on the latest version of SoundBase Desktop.

Can I listen to audio through a Remote View link? No. Remote View shows real-time audio meters — level bars and, on Cards views, a scrolling level timeline — but it does not stream audio you can hear. To listen to channel audio at the desk, see the REAPER integration.

Can people access it from outside the venue or over the internet? No. Remote View serves your local network only. There’s no built-in internet access, cloud publishing, or remote tunnel. Off-site access would require your own networking setup (such as a VPN into the show network), which SoundBase does not provide or support.

How many people can view at once? There’s no fixed limit on connected viewers. The server sends each update once and fans it out to every connected browser, so it scales well; the practical ceiling is your network’s capacity and your host machine, not a viewer cap. The Running — N client(s) indicator always shows how many are connected.

Do viewers need a SoundBase account? No. Viewers need nothing but a browser and the link (plus the password, if you set one). Only the person running SoundBase Desktop needs an account with SoundBase Pro.

Does my data go to the cloud? Live Remote View traffic — meters, device state, chat, and viewer preferences — is served directly from your machine to browsers on your network, and stopping the server stops all of it. Note edits are saved into your project’s note cards, so they sync with your project like any other project change.

Do my viewers’ zoom and channel tweaks change what I see? They never change what the engineer sees on the Monitoring page. However, zoom, hidden channels, channel order, and display toggles are saved per view on the host machine, so all viewers of the same link share one saved setup — the most recent change wins. Create separate views for audiences that need different layouts.

Can viewers change my devices’ settings? No. Views are read-only. The only interactive features are chat and — only if you tick Allow editing note cards — note editing. Nothing a viewer does can alter gain, mute, frequencies, or any device configuration.
